Discovering the positives within

Written by Michelle Williams

In our day-to-day life, anyone would agree that it’s important to stay positive. In fact, recent studies have shown that in people who live to be 100, one overwhelming feature is their tremendous optimism and positive attitudes towards their lives.

It’s human nature to have some negative thoughts. But turning those thoughts into positives is a good first step. For example, instead of focusing on not making enough money, I remind myself how fulfilling my job is. And rather than feeling overwhelmed about how busy my life is, I try to devote my attentions to spending quality time with my family.

Instead of focusing on all the things you don’t love about your appearance, sit down and make a list of every little thing you appreciate about yourself, inside and out. You’ll be surprised just how easy it is to feel great about the person you are!

Finding the time to celebrate you!

Life is so busy that it’s easy to forget to take a few minutes out of your day to find time for yourself. Here are some ways I carve out the time I need to relax, reflect and rejuvenate:

Catch some time for yourself when you’re on the go. Take a bus instead of driving – or walk instead of taking a bus – and plan to arrive at your destination early to have a few minutes of quiet and reflection while you wait.

Save an occasional afternoon or evening just for you. Have a spa treatment, watch a movie you’ve wanted to see, take a yoga class or just sit in the bath and read a magazine. What could be better?
